Approach

Focusing on the natural and casual Jalisco, Mexico life, Jalisco aimed to bring the stylistic craftsmanship seen around every corner and combine it with the Dallas, Texas lifestyle. Taking these two distinct cities into consideration, we aimed to walk the fine line between perfection and imperfection. We looked to materiality, combining the raw with polished in hopes of creating a space that was both approachable yet sophisticated.

Outcome

Mixing the rawness of hand crafted metal work with the softness of polished artisan wood and tile finishes, Jalisco strategically blends the elements that epitomize the city. A wood floor entrance, with white, hacienda style plaster walls greets you as soon as you enter the custom steel clad doors. A bar, central to the space, is clad in custom cement tiles that wrap onto the floor below. Bordering the bar are two distinct spaces. A casual dining space with wood floors and ceilings, complete with 3 full operable glass walls opens up entirely for an open air dining experience. On the opposite side, a tailored, clean dining room is complete with a patterned carpet, custom banquette mill work and a private dining room with traditional Mexican mask displays. Finally, traditional Mexican street food lettering line the walls of all spaces for a grounded touch that harmoniously brings all the Mexican elements together into one dining experience.

Branding

Derived from the most famous natural resource of Jalisco, Agave Azul, mixed with traditional hand-painted mexican signage, the Jalisco brand mixes imperfect, hand lettered text with the geometry of the Blue Agave plant. Finally, the brand color palette brings the yellows and blues not only prominent in the Jalisco state flag, but also in it’s sunny climate and it’s beautiful blue agave crops.
