Aiming for a vibrant and refined, Peruvian-Japanese influenced environment, we set out to design a space that felt cool and contemporary. We researched traditional Japanese illustration and looked to the nightlife of Peru for lighting and art inspiration. We wanted the space to have a tight and cozy feel without being claustrophobic and aimed to use lighting techniques mixed with textured and patterned materials for a balance of upscale and gritty.
Upon entering the space you are hit with vibrant multicolored LED lighting applications. Wood paneled wainscot is combined with traditional Japanese artwork wallpaper and contrasted with textured brick faced walls. Wash lighting in similar colorways brings out the texture and detail of the space for two completely different day and night visual spatial identities. Combined with ornate furniture in deep vibrant colored and patterned fabrics. Wood slatted ceilings and dimensional tiled bar facade add further texture to the layered space. Together, the mixture of detailed materials accentuated with vibrant lighting creates a moody, hip Uptown environment.
The Nikkei Brand set out to bring together a culmination of it’s Peruvian and Japanese roots. We wanted to combine elements of the Chochin lantern sign with the detail of Inca Empire art and print for a unique and distinct logo. A tall bold serif typeface main logo is combined with a Chochin inspired shaped logo filled with a fractured pattern similar to the Inca illustration style for a unique and sophisticated brand that carefully represents the tradition and eclecticism of its origins.
