Currently a work in progress, we were commissioned to design a large scale event and attraction center. Meant to house interior spaces for events, arcade games and a restaurant as well as exterior stage patio and lounge, the brief included a site near an active highway on a plot of land currently dense in trees and landscaping. While the client wanted to engulf the building within the existing landscape there is also a need to draw prevalence and attraction to the center as much as possible.
During the initial site review, we noted existing desire paths and dirt roads. We used this as a basis to locate the building, using the most dense area of convergence closest to the main highway. After locating this, we aimed for this space to act as the programmatic nucleus which the built elements are then centered around. This worked in our favor as this was already the portion of the site that was free of existing nature.
The built volumes radiate around the center space in irregular polygons, each attached to each other and fanning out towards the expanse of the trees while zoning in towards this center. Given the topography of the site, the building sits on top and overlooks landscaping and the two main highways that fork around the site.
All glazing was placed on the faces that overlook towards the exterior program, blurring the line between interior and exterior and visually bringing the landscape in. Varied heights and sloped roofs give a larger sense of scale to the program and bring the excitement and visual impression to the front and center of the site.
This is an ongoing project and will be updated once it is realized.
