A flagship store created around highly textured hair service, Pressed Roots aims to be a space that provides an elevated experience centered around its core service. The idea was to bring a non-traditional salon concept to the forefront and give it a playful environment for it to thrive.
We aimed to keep the majority of the space open so as to promote visibility and interaction between individual zones. An open structure ceiling is broken up by hard ceiling volumes that anchor the programmatic elements below. While forms and volumes are delicate and simple, the materials bring forth variation in texture and color. We wanted for every wall to act as an elegant backdrop for the stylist and client’s personal digital content, while still providing the warmth, comfort and exclusivity of a high-end salon.
The space was programmed as an open concept plan, with the ten salon chairs wrapping an island as its center. Pink powder coated mirrors are suspended back to back across from each chair above a natural stained wood shared island. On one side, seating is cut out of three cylindrical forms while on the other a full storefront window allows for natural daylight to bring out the textural detail throughout. Stained concrete floors and plaster walls in a similar pink hue wrap the space and vertical wood slats allow for visual relief at the waiting area planter and reception desk. Finally, pampas grass and dry vegetation installations allow for a natural touch and an inviting and kinetic space.
