Adjacent to the arts and museum district of Dallas, Sloans aimed to be an approachable lunch and dinner spot within the Dallas Arts District. We knew that we needed to pay attention to site context and the type of clientele within this area. This small footprint needed to have a Bar, dining area, QSR and open kitchen as part of the program.
Given the tight footprint and large program for this space, we knew attention to detail and materiality needed to play a large role. We wanted to keep it as functional within all individual parts while keeping the experience as least confined as possible. We wanted to play on the masculane and femenine and the dichotomy of the color versus materiality and how the two could work together to form a neutral setting.
The entry vestibule is flanked on either side by blush velvet drapery on a black metal frame, the floor is clad in a light, patterned tile and extends out into the rest of the restaurant, its hand-illustrated patterns lending to a more organic and natural flow throughout.
The walls are clad in stack bond grey concrete tiles and are joined by acoustic panelled walls. The main Bar volume is clad in a light, flat stucco while the concrete tile wainscot continues and is capped by a live edge wood bar top. The wood is continued vertically to the ceiling where a series of irregular forms slope up to higher levels. The lighter palette near the floor of the space allows for a lighter feel through spaces and helps keep the space feeling open while the darker, more solid feeling forms above help keep the space grounded.
A clear view through the bar to the back open kitchen allows for the energy in each individual room to flow in and out.
Sloane’s is a perfectly located spot that takes notes from it’s art’s district neighbors to create an atmosphere that feels like it is perfectly curated for everyone.
